FAQ – prevention and investigation of DDOS attacks

1. What is DDOS attack?
Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) is a type of Denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) - attempt to make a website, server, application, specific service or even network unavailable to its intended users. Ordinary it results in direct financial losses specifically for e-business and e-commerce, reputational damage and client dissatisfaction. It is a DDOS attack when multiple compromised computer systems attack and flood the resources of a target computer system.

2. Why DDOS is used by cybecriminals?
Ordinary DDOS is a powerful tool in making your business competitors stay offline. Sometimes it is also used for cyberterrorism, religious and political purpose.
For example for Financial Institutions providing Internet Banking \ E-Banking services it is essential to stay online to support the customers. Unavailability of such services for minutes could result in fanatical losses, reputational damage, loss of client trust.

3. How to prevent DDOS attacks?
It depends on the type and complexity of attack, however you can use:

  • Complex tools like IPS, IDS and Firewalls and powerful hardware;
  • Replication of servers under one DNS and load balancing between them;
  • Redundant infrastructure;
  • Tunneling of all server requests to security service provide to receive a clean network traffic.

4. How to prepare for DDOS attack?
You can choose at least to:

  1. Hire IT and IS professionals and buy expensive hardware and software. This approach is close to telecom companies.

5. What can I do in case if I am under attack and need to stop it as soon as possible? Ordinary contracts and other documents will take time to sign.

6. How long investigation on DDOS attack will be carried out?
It could be from 1 day to 1 year, generally it depends on experience of attacker, and geography of botnet used for attack.

7. What are you doing to prevent DDOS?
We use network traffic tunneling to our network, filter and block malicious traffic and you will get clear one. This means that if you are using our services user of your websites and your servers will not be affected and you will know about DDOS only from our reports.

8. How long does it takes to prepare for DDOS and stop the attack?
Ordinary it takes from 1 hour to 24 hours depending on complexity of attack and reaction of your network engineers to configure your network.

9. Can you find the sponsor of the attack? (Who exactly requested DDOS attack)?

10. How much DDOS protection costs?

  • stopping incoming attack to 1 of your websites;
  • protecting 1 of your websites for 30 days.

If you are going to continue using our services the price will be lower starting from 20%

11. How much DDOS investigation costs?

12. What I will get after DDOS investigation?
At first the customer will get the report and results of investigation telling who requested the DDOS, who performed the attack, why and how it was organized and all required evidences.
